7-Day Kerala Family Holiday Itinerary

7-Day Kerala Family Holiday Itinerary

Kerala is one of the easiest places in India for a relaxed family holiday. Cool hill stations, calm backwaters, gentle wildlife experiences and soft cultural activities mean there is something for every age group.

This 7-day Kerala family itinerary is designed for multi-generational travel—from small children to grandparents—using Kerala-registered vehicles, comfortable hotels and sensible daily travel times.

Trip Overview

Duration: 7 Days / 6 Nights
Route: Kochi → Munnar → Thekkady → Alleppey (Backwaters) → Kochi
Best time: October to March; shoulder seasons can also work with minor adjustments.

Highlights: tea gardens of Munnar, easy wildlife experiences in Thekkady, a family-friendly backwater stay in Alleppey, and light cultural time in Kochi.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Kochi

Arrive at Cochin International Airport (COK) and meet your driver. Transfer to your hotel in Kochi and rest after the journey.

If energy allows, take an easy evening outing to Marine Drive or Fort Kochi for a short walk, snacks and sunset views. We keep this day light for children and elders to settle in.

Day 2 – Kochi to Munnar (Hill Station)

After breakfast, check out and drive towards Munnar (around 4–5 hours). The route includes waterfalls and tea estates, with optional short photo stops so no-one gets too tired.

Check into a family-friendly hill resort with open spaces and views. The rest of the day is free for children to explore the property and adults to relax with tea and the cool climate.

Day 3 – Munnar Family Sightseeing

Local sightseeing in and around Munnar at a gentle pace:

  • Visit a Tea Museum / Tea Factory to see how tea is made.
  • Short drives to viewpoints like Photo Point or Mattupetty Dam.
  • Optional boat ride or park visit, depending on children’s interests.

We avoid packing too many stops into one day so that kids and grandparents can enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed.

Day 4 – Munnar to Thekkady (Wildlife & Spices)

Drive down to Thekkady (about 3–4 hours). Check in at a resort close to nature—often with gardens, small play areas and easy walking paths.

In the afternoon, visit a spice plantation for a guided tour that is interesting for both adults and older children. In the evening, families often enjoy a martial arts or cultural show together.

Day 5 – Thekkady to Alleppey (Backwaters)

If the family is keen and everyone is comfortable with early starts, we can arrange a morning boat ride on Periyar Lake (subject to availability), otherwise a slower morning is fine.

After breakfast, drive to Alleppey (around 4–5 hours). Check into either:

  • a private houseboat for a safe, family-friendly backwater cruise, or
  • a backwater resort with pool and lawns, if you prefer not to sleep on a boat.

Children usually enjoy watching village life along the canals, and the calm water makes it a soothing experience for elders.

Day 6 – Backwaters to Kochi

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning by the backwaters. Later, drive back to Kochi (2–3 hours).

Depending on arrival time, you can:

  • Visit Fort Kochi for Chinese fishing nets, St. Francis Church and simple cafes, or
  • Do some last-minute shopping at Lulu Mall or local markets.

Day 7 – Departure

Check out and transfer to the airport or railway station for your onward journey. If your flight is later in the day, we can keep a few hours free for a short city drive or extra shopping.

Making the Trip Comfortable for All Ages

For multi-generational families, we pay special attention to:

  • Driving times: Planning realistic drive durations with enough breaks.
  • Hotel access: Choosing properties with lifts or fewer stairs where elders are involved.
  • Room configurations: Family rooms, interconnected rooms or suites where parents can keep an eye on younger kids.
  • Flexible sightseeing: Building in optional activities so anyone can skip a stop and rest at the hotel.

Suggested Inclusions for a Family Holiday

A typical 7-day Kerala family package might include:

  • Private Kerala-registered vehicle suitable for your group size.
  • Comfortable, family-friendly hotels and resorts in each location.
  • Daily breakfast, with the option to include some dinners or special meals.
  • Key activities like tea museum visit, spice plantation tour and either a houseboat cruise or backwater resort experience.
